These days Mallorca's food and gastronomy is typified by two different styles. On the one hand there is traditional Mallorcan cuisine, which we will deal with later; but it is also worth mentioning international food, which has been imported to the island from all corners of the world thanks to tourism. Mallorca is a gastronomic paradise. The local food, which is greatly influenced by Mediterreanean cooking, is simple and delicious. Rice is a typical ingredient, and will be found in paellas of fish and seafood, or chicken and beef. Paella here is quite delicious.
Other typical Mallorcan dishs are "Zarzuela de Pescado" or fish casserole, made with Sea Perch, Swordfish or Dorado; steamed mussels a marniere, dates, prawns, and as in many other parts of the Mediterranean, grilled sardines.
One type of typical retaurante in Palma is the Celler, a kind of bodega serving fried fish of various kinds. This region also has excellent soups. |
