Palma is the capital of the Island of Majorca, Spain (the main island of the Balearic Islands). Besides Majorca, in the cluster of Balearic Islands, you will find Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera, Cabrera, and Dragonera. They are located to the east of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Mediterranean Sea, and aboug 100 to 200 kilometres from the mainland of Spain. The cluster of Balearic Islands occupy some 5,000 kilometres squared, and of them, 3,600 km pertain to the Island of Majorca, Spain. This island also has 550,000 of the 750,000 total inhabitants of all of the Balearic Islands. The main cities on the Island of Majorca are: Palma (the capital); Manacor; Alcudia; Inca; Llucmajor; Felanitx and Soller and when speaking of main tourist destinations, we should include Cala Ratjada, Cala Millor, Puerto Pollensa, Puerto Portals and Andratx.
The island of Majorca has 3 bays, that of Palma, of Alcudia, and of Pollenca. It also has a large number of coves with crystal clear water, plenty of lush vegetation, palm trees, locust trees, and oleanders, along with olive and almond trees.
The most important beaches are that of Playa de Es Trenc, where you will find crystal clear and clean water and lots of vegetation around fine sand. It is an ample and extensive beach that has nudist zones. Also, Ses Roquetes Beach in the zone called San Jordi is similar to Es Trenc Beach, but harder to access.
In Majorca, you´ll find all kinds of services: golf courses, places to practice windsurf, hiking spots, and amazingly pretty beaches. There are great restaurants around the island, and lots of nature spots to explore. |
